Dear Internet: Is there a list somewhere of every Boston Red Sox player with the same name as a Massachusetts town?

As in:

  • Mike Lowell
  • Bob Tewksbury
  • Tim Wakefield
  • Fred Lynn*
  • Carl Everett
  • Tom Bolton
  • Reggie Jefferson
  • Wes Gardner

I thank you, oh wise and wonderful internet, for your time.

*Lynn is actually a city, not a town. But, I'm not being crazy picky on this point. Cities. Towns. Villages? All the same in terms of my query.

and thank god for that

Roger "fat fucking pig" Clemens didn't win his 300th game against the Red Sox yesterday. Am I bitter still? Yes. Will I, in some way, be happy when Gordo gets his 300th? Sure, he meant a lot to Red Sox nation back in the day. Would I have been able to stomach it if he'd won his 300th against the Sox? No way in hell. I would be driven crazy by that fact 'til the end of my days.

Now this is good news

Red Sox exercise Martinez 2004 option – seven months early

Your slogan can never be clever enough

Your slogan can never be clever enough
My favorite, of course: "Boston Red Sox: 'The New York Yankees Sodomize Orphaned Puppies — We Adopt Them.'"

Bummer

If Sean McDonough is no longer even the part-time voice of the Red Sox and we're stuck with Don Orsillo full-time I'm going to strangle somebody. Sean McDonough is one of the the best in the business, regardless of his tenure, and once you factor in his 15 years of service and incredible passion for the team, it would be nothing short of an outrage to let him walk out the door.
