This is the Greatest Skate Video Part of All Time (to me at least)

I think I’ve linked to this before. I’m not sweating that.

Anyway, I was 16 when this dropped so, for me, this is basically the ultimate example of skateboarding on video. when this came out it immediately changed everything we did (and changed skateboarding forever, as far as I can tell.)

Matt Hensley from Shackle Me Not.

A couple of other favorites.

Natas Kaupas in Streets of Fire

There are things in this video that still make me shake my head.

Tommy Guerrero from Future Primitive

This is pure skateboarding to me. Brilliant stuff.

MIKE VALLELY - “Public Domain” (1988)

Another one that we copied extensively.

Mark Gonzales Video Days

Best style ever.

And then behold the glory of another bunch of photos from the Graphic Violence contest. Here’s a sample from that new set (which just happens to feature a great shot of the SCRATCH piece hinted at in several other photos form the contest:)

Two Awesome Shots of Sean Waters from REACT Zine

“Sean Waters skates anything well”

wasn’t that the truth.

By the way, if any of you skate types have a full collection of Poweredge I’d love to see Sean’s appearance again.

Natas Kaupas from Streets of Fire

Natas, along with the inimitable Mark Gonzales, defined street skating for people of my generation. The following clip is a great snapshot of the kind of stuff we did in that era.
I think I did at least 75% of the tricks he does in here at some point.

No, I still don’t have time to write anything real :(

Not news to you maybe, but Jason Schwarztman + Mark Gonzales = cool

This video for Coconut Records (Jason Schwarztman) “West Coast” featuring the inimitable Mark Gonzales.

More on the background can be found here*: PAPERMAG: WORD UP!: Jason Schwartzman Mashes Mark Gonzales

*and probably elsewhere on the net, I’m too busy to fully research today.

[edited to add:] The album is on emusic. Saved for later.

Mark Gonzales- Video Days

It’s been a while since I posted a skateboarding video. *
