Charles Trenet x Goodfellas x Lost

This song follows me around.

Charles Trenet Wrote and Recorded the Song La Mer

He wrote it in 1943 and then recorded it in 1946.

For those of you keeping track, Charles Trenet also sang Boum, which was used in Toto the Hero to great effect:

Trenet performing it…

Bobby Darin Sang it in English as "Beyond the Sea" and it Made it's Way into Goodfellas

In the flow of the movie

And Then it Came Back, In French, on Lost

Modestly inspired by James Burke's Connections.

Two Items Missing from the Lost Auction Catalog That I Would Bid on if They Were Included in the Auction

I got the Lost Auction catalog from Profiles in History this week. It's a well put together collection, and I've got a short list of about 7-8 items to potentially bid on in a few weeks.

I am somewhat disappointed that two items I was hoping would be in the catalog never made it into the listing.

I bet you're wondering what they are. I'll tell you. I'm just that kind of guy.

Movies 2009 #27 Caprica

Did I mention I was catching up with Battlestar Galactica? I was. I finished the series about three weeks ago. Dare I say I frakking loved it? frak me, I loved that show. Frak rak frak,

Space opera + drunk people unraveling emotionally + a crazy overarching mystery = motherfrakking great television.

frakkety frak frak frak.

Anyway, so I watched the prequel movie/pilot for the news series, Caprica and it too was great. It wasn't really what I expected. It was actually more Cylon: the Origin, than anything about the Caprica I knew from the show. Thing is, the origin story was so clever and well executed it didn't really matter that it wasn't what I expected. It was way cooler than that. So if you've seen the show and avoided this, for whatever reason, get off your ass and check it out. It's frakking great. I can't wait for the ongoing series to start up.

(no more frak jokes after this I swear.)

Monster Month: Best Monster Ever? Godzilla is the Clear Choice.

You would argue with this choice? I would not.

Godzilla = best.

Creature Double Feature FTW.

I'm Catching Up With Two Different TV Shows Right Now- Mad Men and Battlestar Galactica

I'm watching an episode or two pretty of each much every day. For those of you keeping track, I'm in season 4 of BSG and JUST starting season 2 of Mad Men.

Please, with that in mind, no spoilers in the comments, please.

OMG, I Figured it OUT! Don Draper Is the Fifth Cylon!

With the similarities (stressed, unhappy people doing crazy things and drinking a lot,) I'm afraid I'm going to merge the two in my mind. The smoking and the booze especially tie the two shows together.

Great characters in each, which is why I?'m such a fan of both. I probably like BSG better, being a science fiction fan and all, but really all Mad Men needs is this guy to push it over the top:

Not the best likeness, but it's all about the effort anyway.
