Dear Internet- where can I hear Belle & Sebastian cover Another Girl, Another Planet?

I was poking around the wikipedia entry for The Only Ones' Another Girl, Another Planet when I discovered that it had been covered by Belle & Sebastian. My head might explode with that knowledge. So… dear internet, please sir or madam, where might I find a copy? for sale? For download? For direct injection into my brain?

Much virtual love to whoever can hook me up.

The last thing you want to hear from one of your developers is-

"If this project were a rock star, it would be Pete Doherty."

Great shot of Pete Doherty provided by flickr user Sarah PhotoGirl

For those of you unfamiliar with Pete's history- he has a separate "Pete Doherty's controversies" Wikipedia entry. That's a pretty good hint and the first sentence from that entry should clear up any mystery about whether or not that that's a good comparison:

Pete Doherty is an English singer and musician who has become well known to the public because of his addiction to heroin and crack cocaine, frequent arrests, court appearances which are heavily reported by tabloid press, along with his on-off relationship with model Kate Moss.

By the way, whatever sort of mess his life is now, I still love The Libertines…

I can trace the fact that I devour new music at a higher rate than I ever did to my discovery of The Libertines.

I feel like I'm 12 again. I found the Wild Style soundtrack at eMusic…

I just found the Wild Style Original Soundtrack at eMusic. It was, not surprisingly, an instant download for me. Listening to it brings me way, way back.

Ever read my review?

I love this quote:

"Being a graffiti writer is taking the chances and shit. Taking the risks.
Taking like all the arguments, from the transit, from the police, from your own moms.
You know, from your friends and shit. You know- you gotta take all that bullshit…
[...]
How can you call people that hang out [of] train windows and watch trains writers?
You gotta write! You gotta do the action. You gotta go out there- rack up.
You gotta go out and paint and be called an outlaw at the same time."

Replace "hang out [of] train windows and watch trains" with "hang out on the 12oz forum and paint throw ups in the woods" and that's still gospel.

I'm not alone- The Only Ones MeFi post:

In which, it's pointed out that, they're back together and playing live again.

It also points to this excellent youtube version of Another Girl, Another Planet:

Last Night

I saw Albert Hammond jr (from the Strokes, doing a solo thing, if you're not paying attention) with The Dead Trees and Medium Cool at the Paradise Rock Club last night. It was a severely fun show. All three bands were really good, to the point where I'm kind of disappointed that I didn't see the entire set from Medium Cool, the first opening act. If you get a chance, check any/all of these guys out live. Well worth your time and $$.

Here's the video for Back to the 101:

By the way- did you know why he goes by "jr" The internet reveals all…
First post from the new, screamingly fast computer, by the way.

I'm 30.86 % mainstream

See the gory details for yourself… This week I've been even worse- 22.08 % mainstream.

That's what I get for listening to Charles Trenet all week.

How mainstream are you?

Speaking of MP3s, I just discovered I have a copy of…

Pete Doherty of The Libertines and Babyshambles singing Another Girl, Another Planet by The Only Ones. The song, called "the greatest rock single ever recorded" by the allmusic guide, has been something of an obsession of mine over the past few months (to the point where I agree with them wholeheartedly) and I was a complete geek for The Libertines, so realizing I had downloaded a cool convergence between the two like that was pure bonus round. It's a pretty good version.

Available at The Albion Arks, for those that might be interested.

The reason for all of this MP3 talk is- I'm trying to load all new tracks onto the MP3 player I bring to the gym/running so I'm poking around some dusty old folders…

The Oldest MP3 on my Machine?

Is from 1998-4-11. It's a copy of Wong Fei Hung's theme from Tsui Hark's Once Upon a Time in China. Based on the folk song, On the General's Orders, and used in hundreds of it's instantly recognizable to fans of Hong Kong cinema.

That's not the first MP3 I ever downloaded, however. That honor goes to a live version of Tool's Aenima which I've long since deleted. It's stunning to think that song is well over ten years old at this point, but it is. What a lovely, hate filled ode to Los Angeles that is.
