Steamboy - Director's Cut (Widescreen Edition): Typical Otomo, really. Technology out of control, wildly creative tech designs and overall art direction, breakneck pacing… A lot of fun.

Le Samourai - Criterion Collection I've seen this a few times now. I really geeked out over the many silent scenes. The first line of dialogue is something like ten minutes into the film and there are several such long stretches without a spoken word. It's really masterful "showing." Anyone aspiring screenwriters who can't wrap their head around the visual power of the medium and can't shut up should watch this film a bunch of times. With clear, gripping storytelling (and a charismatic leading man like Delon) here's simply no need to "tell" for most of the film and it's all the better for it.

Movies 2005(+2) #41-42

Porco Rosso: I personally love this movie. Yeah, it's weird, and not really typical of what people are looking for Myazaki (or something.) Who cares? I think it's great. and watching it on DVD as opposed to a bootleg is pure heaven.

A Day Without a Mexican: It was a movie.

Millennium Actress. A very creative film and very sweet in a lot of ways. It's also extremely film geeky, referencing films from both the east and west liberally.

Full Metal Alchemist

I'm a big fan all of a sudden. It's really good.

My Neighbor Totoro. Dubbed, full screen :( I barely felt like I watched it.

The Castle of Cagliostro: a fun Myazaki film. Humorous in the liberties it takes with the character of the normally lecherous Lupin III. Watch this film and then watch an episode or two of the TV series or read the Manga. The character in this is, at best, a distant cousin of the downright mean, sleazy Monkey Punch character. Not a bad thing, just so different it's funny.
