One quibble, which Target pointed out, was that there was no picture from CORE2 on the IMOK/SPORTS page. An example from Boston on that page would have been nice too. CROMAG straight in the middle of that page was nice though.

Oh, and my favorite photo so far is the AVES ITD whole car they did for him while he was in the hospital. WHOLE CAR.

Yes.

It made me want to go back in time and design skateboard graphics for a living in the late 1980s, early 1990s.

It also reminded me of Steve Rocco. If you were around skateboarding then, it will do the same for you. You'll know in advance whether or not it will be a good association…

I seriously geeked out over this book. Boards I'd ridden, boards I'd lusted after and boards I'd forgotten flowed for page after page, accompanied by personal recollections and anecdotes by the skaters and artists themselves. Just an incredible document of a fascinating, creative movement.

Boston Serve-a-thon

On Saturday, May 22, 2010 join City Year Boston for the 21st Annual Serve-a-thon Fundraiser presented by MFS Investment Management®.

The City Year Serve-a-thon is much like your typical walk-a-thon fundraiser, but with a twist! Instead of walking for a cause, participants in the Serve-a-thon fundraiser spend the day doing community service to directly transform neighborhoods.

All funds raised from this event will go to support the City Year Boston young leaders who make a difference in the lives of children during their year of service through literacy tutoring, mentoring, after-school activities, school vacation programs and community service projects.

A $30 volunteer participation fee covers:

* service supplies
* transportation for the day
* event t-shirt
* breakfast at the Kick-off provided by Gourmet Lauren
* lunch provided by Gourmet Lauren
* dinner at closing celebration provided by Qdoba and Pollo Campero
* entertainment at closing celebration (featuring a band, raffle, and media show with pictures from the day)

The Distillery Gallery and OverKill Studio announce the second edition of "Paint it Now," an exhibit which brings together practicing artists of varied backgrounds to examine the complexity of the nature of painting today.

The critically-acclaimed first edition of "Paint it Now" in August of 2008 included "a giant black-and-white mural by all the artists, bubbling with pop characters such as Alfred E. Neuman and rolling with dark undertones," (Cate McQuaide, Boston Globe). The 2010 version will expand upon the two-wall mural concept, bringing the collaborative painting installation through the entire gallery space. The "black paint on white walls" parameters of the first exhibit remain intact, helping to blur lines between individual contributions, resulting in a more cohesive and unified final piece.

OverKill's Thomas Buildmore and Morgan Thomas have again teamed-up with Distillery Gallery Director, Scott Chasse, to curate the exhibit, as well as contribute to it, though much of the work will transpire via interaction between artists as imagery organically unfolds throughout the two-week installation period. "Paint it Now" examines what it means to emerging painters to create in the contemporary arena. As Buildmore stated in a 2008 interview with The Boston Phoenix, “It’s a collision of all of the different influences we draw from. It’s like bringing all of art history right to the surface.”

The exhibit boasts a roster of over twenty artists from Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia:
