Where’s Whitey? Possible Whitey Bulger sighting in Italy.
Just in time for my trip
“Fugitive gangster James “Whitey” Bulger and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, may have been spotted in Sicily in April by a vacationing federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent who shot a brief video of the couple before they slipped away, according to law enforcement officials.”
You know, even with the conservative look, he still looks like he’s ready to stick a gun in somebody’s mouth. The video (which should really be on Youtube- seriously I’d post that here in a hot second,) makes me wonder how well concealed the guy/gal doing to taping was since both of them look apparently right into the camera. I’m not sure how a DEA agent would handle it, but if I were filming Whitey and looked right into the camera I’d probably just start running. Sure he’s like 95 years old, but he’s still a freakin’ on-the-run murderer.

Pssst! the mystery film tomorrow is Duel to the Death. Sign me right up!
If anyone is lucky enough to be in Boston reading this with no plans for tonight- for the love of all that’s holy go see Shanghai Express tonight. If just to see one of the greatest stunts in Hong Kong cinema history, Yuen Biao’s flip off of a three story burning building.
I’m going tomorrow night to see Duel to the Death. A brilliantly over-the-top wire fu classic from the 80s. The final battle, which takes place entirely in the sky, is one of the true classic Wuxia scenes.
For five nights this September, a vacant lot near Boston’s Chinatown Gate will become a free, outdoor theater, showing Kung-Fu and classic Chinese-language films under the stars. Films at the Gate returns with a focus on Hong Kong comedians and some of their early influences. Join us for an event that brings back a tradition of watching movies together in Chinatown
Dear Internet: Is there a list somewhere of every Boston Red Sox player with the same name as a Massachusetts town?
As in:
- Mike Lowell
- Bob Tewksbury
- Tim Wakefield
- Fred Lynn*
- Carl Everett
- Tom Bolton
- Reggie Jefferson
- Wes Gardner
I thank you, oh wise and wonderful internet, for your time.
*Lynn is actually a city, not a town. But, I’m not being crazy picky on this point. Cities. Towns. Villages? All the same in terms of my query.
How I spent part of my Sunday…
Watching some lion dance and martial arts demonstrations in Boston’s Chinatown. Here’s a lion dance team from the Shaolin Hung Gar Martial Arts Academy performing:
As a note, I really miss working downtown and being able to go to places like China Pearl, Eldo Cake House and East Ocean City at will.

Road sign on Route 1 takes detour
“The message an electronic sign was flashing at passing drivers on Route 1 yesterday was a real eye-popper.
And now state officials want to know who hacked into an electronic road sign and programmed an obscene message on it…”
[update] thanks to Kelly in the comments we have youtube video
I told you this was the #1 spot for “penis for lunch” news on the whole internets.
RIP Mr. Butch
Does anyone remember the jacket he used to wear? Something like “I’m goddamned, motherfucking mr. butch” anyone remember what the exact quote was? This would be around 1985-6. Wikipedia fails me.
“Memorial planned for July 16 at 8pm at Ritual Arts & Regeneration Tattoo.
