Kurosawa Centennial at the Brattle, Starting This Week

akira kurosawa

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to take in, but I'm hoping to see at least a couple films. The clearest options are Hidden Fortress and Throne of Blood because they're playing on the weekend, but the Yojimbo/Sanjuro double feature could be a hell of a lot of fun.

What I'm really hoping to be able to see is the 25th anniversary print of Ran, which is playing across town at the Coolidge Corner Theater. Based on the way my week looks that'll be tomorrow night or bust. I love Ran.

Here's more about the series at the Brattle:

I Pronounce it "Eye Em Oh Kay" or "I'm Okay"

I never say "eye-mock."

Just in case you were wondering. Some people do say "eye-mock." That's their prerogative, they can do what they want to do…

Some Photos from "Paint it Now"

The show opened tonight. It was a great scene and the art was incredible.

Tar + Get = Hey T! It's Spring, We Can Paint Outside Without Losing Fingers!

I started with the E in the GET and then worked backwards, adding a T, then a G and then realizing I could do a diptych if I started in on another piece of paper. All of which allows me to remind Target himself that we can paint now that the weather has thawed. Sweet.

You get the GET after the jump (oh snap)

One of the great songs in rock and roll history*

My wife introduced me to Big Star when we first met. So beyond the incredible music itself, I have a deep personal connection to the songs. A truly great band. If you're unfamiliar, you can get the full early story (three albums) in two handy packages: #1 Record/Radio City and Third/Sister Lovers.

*there are a lot of great covers of Thirteen out there. Hunt around, there's some magical stuff out there.
