More for the technique than for the actual image

I've done a lot of this pencil/chalk/ ink stuff when doing life drawing. Not so much when doing letters. I like it. I'm not sure about this specific piece, but I'm going to mess around with this a little more. Maybe paying attention to what I'm doing a little more :)

Snow On the Ground. Thoughts of Spring

I'm especially warmed by the idea of Paris-Nice and Boston Red Sox spring training in Fort Myers.

One (spring training) I've been to and completely love. Sitting in the hot Florida sun surrounded by a field of green and the giant palms in the outfield is where it's at.

Speaking of which, here are some photos from 2004:

The other- I'd simply love to witness. Especially in a year like this when the winter has already beaten me down with frigid temperatures and feet of snow. Just thinking back to Contador's attack last year in that clear southern French sun warms my winter assaulted heart :)

Books 2008 #2 High Performance Web Sites

High Performance Web Sites: Essential Knowledge for Front-End Engineers This book? All kinds of interesting. I've been writing about performance a little bit here recently and this well written, concise book has really helped to expand my understanding of some of the issues involved. It also opened my eyes to a few new possibilities for performance improvement here at this site. One of which I'll be implementing some time this week- passively caching the "next" and "previous" images in all of my gallery flows. Meaning, if you land on this page, JS will work in the background downloading the images featured on the Next and Previous links. And no, that won't help my YSlow grade, Mr. YSlow junkie (actually there's not much I can do beyond dropping things like Google Analytics and Google Ads), but it will definitely help my users and that's the real point, isn't it?

It's the small things that make my day.

In this case it's the fact that I've got another PageRank 5 :)

First the blog, now my home page has jumped from a 4 to a 5.

Cool.

None of you care. I know this. But I care, I'm happy and I feel like writing about it. So that's that :)

From what I can tell, it actually happened back in November, when the Google Webmaster Tools suite told me my home page had overtaken /304/ as the page on my site with the highest PageRank. It's since been eclipsed again by the blog (hopefully because the blog is closing in on 6,) but a 5 is a 5, so I'll take it.

Graffiti Letter O

I'm hoping to be done with the whole alphabet by the end of this month.

Yeah.

Several Letter As

While I work my way through the digital alphabet, I've begun another little project. This one will produce a black and white, traditionally illustrated (AKA brush, pen and ink) graffiti alphabet poster that you can all tack up on your walls and drool over.

Or bite from.

Or cross out over and over again because I'm such a dick.

Regardless, here are some A sketches where I'm trying to figure out what style to use for the poster.

Expect more of this stuff as the months roll on.
