Ain't No Cure for the Summertime Blues
Except, when there is a cure and apparently I've got it. Normally my traffic goes down over the summer months. From what I understand net traffic in general goes down over the summer (is that an old wives tale? I've always just quoted it to people without any data to back it up) and a lot of what I do appeals to a younger crowd- high school and college age kids who kill time by surfing all of my pretty pictures. Those folks have a lot better things to do in the summer than geek out on my outlines for hours at a time.
Anyway, this past month my traffic actually went up. It was helped, in part, by increased blog traffic, but only in part as people hitting the blog only visit one or two pages whereas my regular visitors average around 7.75 pages per visit. To give numbers to that, the number of visitors increased by 24.79% over May, but the number of page views only increased by 11.26%. Those numbers are slightly misleading as June has only 30 days while May has 31 and May was something of a slump month month for me. What's good about the increased blog traffic is that a lot of people visiting the blog are coming for different reasons (JavaScript, CSS and other web stuff) than the ones visiting my galleries. There's definitely some graffiti crossover, but the folks searching for some specific JavaScript method are almost certainly new visitors.
Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
We'll see how July and August go…
