What I'm up to tonight.

I'm drinking the end of a bottle of Cuvee du Vatican Chateauneuf du Pape 2001 and I'm nerding it up while doing some work for, er, work. On the weekend- yes. It's the first time they've asked me to so much as stay late so I can't complain. Especially since the client is gimongous.

Anyway, I've got two laptops running which is always fun. My trusty beast* is purring along, pumping out music, and running Photoshop and Fireworks. Next to that is a not-so-trusty work machine that has been optimized for some totally unrelated dot net project. The desktop is a wasteland of Microsoftisms that plainly frightens me. So… instead of using that to actually work on (there are also some configuration issues) I'm using that to VPN into my network at work and then connecting via remote desktop to my work PC.

I'm getting my nerd on- even though the whole setup is embarrassingly hacky.

All of which reminds me of how much I miss the way we worked at Advisortech. Pretty much all dev was done on centralized Linux or Solaris machines so all I had to do was fire up SSH and I was in and working lickety split.

*my machine is going to get it's final upgrade soon. I'm moving up to two GB of RAM soon, which will hopefully push this thing out another year or two performance-wise.

After all this nerd talk I have to clear it somehow? What if I name check Mike Skinner? (Could Well Be In just came on) Have I mentioned that I'm kind of drunk? Is computing drunk more or less nerdy than computing sober?

The mind toggles.
